Five Years Ago...

Maybe this subject has been beaten into the ground already, but I can't believe that it's been five years since the disappearance of Cindy Song.  It was my first year at Penn State University Park.  I didn't know a soul and I was starting out my college career.  Penn State is a very intimidating place, as some of you know and 2001 wasn't the best year in history.  September 11th hit days before the first PRS meeting.  Then a month later, Cindy Song disappears.  It was an odd time.  People were always talking about it but very few actually did anything.

In the spring of 2002, a psychic named Carla Baron, in passing, emailed our group just to say how happy she was that there was a paranormal group from her area (she grew up in Lock Haven).  We later started to talk about partnering up over something.  She said that if we ever received a missing persons case or ever worked on one to give her a call.  It then occurred to me, so I told her about Cindy Song.  She said she would help on the case as long as the police department assisted/approved.  So I called up Ferguson Township Police, shaking.  I was afraid they'd arrest me for "being stupid" by suggesting the use of a psychic.  But oddly enough, the head detective, Brian Sprinkle, was totally game.

The bulk of my job was putting law enforcement and psychic profiler together...and then documenting it.  But it got me into something so much greater.  One hot summer day in late June, myself and two others went hunting for Cindy Song using clues from Baron.  At one point, we thought we had found her.  And it was one strange moment.  I mean, I didn't really expect to find her body.  But we certainly found something.  For a good solid minute, we thought it was her.  The remains looked similar to that of a petite human's.  On top of thinking that we were about to change the world, I thought to myself how great it was that we were gonna potentially solve the case since there would be a body to shed new light.  But as my partner got closer, we realized that it was animal.  My heart fell hard.  There was this rush and adrenaline when we thought we had identified her.  But then it suddenly ended.  I didn't want to admit it to myself.  Regardless, we had to tell the police so they could at least see for themselves.

I was supposed to leave the next day to head back to South Carolina.  It was summer break and I chose to stay in Carolina for the summer, but I had come up just to give psychic investigation a try.  When I contacted the police, they asked me to go back to the area with police so I could show them.  Now, I was sun burnt, dehydrated and very muddy.  I didn’t want to go anywhere, but I had to hop back in the car and meet the chief of the Pennsylvania State Police.  He asked us to return in the morning to show them.  I told him that I was supposed to leave for South Carolina.  He pretty much told me, in a very kind manner mind you, that I had to stay an extra day.

When it was all said and done, I felt as if I had my heart ripped out.  I never meant to get so emotionally involved in a case, especially since I heard Carla tell me a million times that it doesn’t help to get emotionally involved.  Nevertheless, I did.  For one moment, I thought that I made a breakthrough in the paranormal regarding evidence.  I still think Carla is psychic mainly because it was her readings that led us directly to the body, even though it wasn’t Cindy’s.  She still foresaw a future event.

Even today, it hurts to know that Cindy is still out there.  Five years later, the police still don’t have any leads and her mystery is far from being solved.  Almost the entire population at Penn State has changed since her disappearance (which makes me feel VERY old, by the way).  No one knows who Cindy Song is.  And why would they?  They’re not from Penn State.  They just got to school.  Maybe they heard it from an upperclassman who had a friend when she disappeared.  Cindy’s apartment has probably changed tenants at least two times.  Her friends have graduated and moved on.  And perhaps this applies to her killer, also?

I really think that only divine intervention will solve this case.  Carla told me once that a case will be solved when it’s meant to, once all the lessons are learned.  What more is there to learn, I wonder?  But perhaps this is the essence of faith?  Maybe faith is learning to accept loss and believe that, in the end, everything will be all right?

I thought this case was solved . I must have mistaken it for another girl who a Truck driver was convicted for murdering . I recentely watched MR. Buell on PCN channel and I feel you are one of the most understanding and compassionate people investigating those who are being attacked by demons . I hope that all your future endeavors are a blessing !

hi I also am a psychic in Pa. I did a basement tour with Ryan at the library yrs ago. Very interested in who he is using as a sensitive and who as someone to concur with.

Ryan's Response: Howdy.  I utilize a few psychics, most of which are not in the Pennsylvania area.  We fly them in for cases.  Two of the mediums we regularly use are Chip Coffey and CJ Sellers.  When PRS chooses a psychic to work with, we often pick ones who are responsible, highly educated and function on some other level besides being psychic.  For example, Chip is a paranormal investigator and holds a Master's Degree in Psychology.  He's worked as a counselor before becoming a full-time medium.  He also has credentials from other widely respected individuals from the paranormal community and even law enforcement.  Hope this answers your question.  Yours, RYAN.

I think you should post what things have helped protect you and others in those circumstances, prayers, for instance the power of God surrounds me, the love of God surrounds me or whichever you have learned.

    Hi Ryan,

I just saw "Paranormal State" for the first time a few days ago and was of coure intrigued by familiar sights: Penn State and Our Lady of Victory. I lived in State College through junior high and high school, since my dad was the police chief in Ferguson Township (yep, you likely met him regarding the Cindy Song case).

If it is any consolation at all, you should know that law enforcement officers also feel profound emotions in the course of an investigation, even when they've been at it for years. As destructive as it can become, it's a good sign that one hasn't become calloused to the very real people involved. I know there are cases that still haunt my dad to this day.

I also wanted to mention that I was pleasantly surprised by your handling of these investigations. I'll admit that I was quite skeptical and looking to, well, smirk a bit when I first saw the show... but how wonderful it was to see how your team ensured the families I saw were put in touch with long-term assistance in the form of counseling and spiritual guidance. It seems your work stems from a genuine desire to help people regardless of what type of help it turns out they need; that's great. And I'm also relieved to see that you have a strong faith in God and His power. There is indeed evil out there, and there are things we can't yet understand. But good wins in the end, and we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

Best wishes in your continued search for truth, your relationship with the Lord, and your efforts to help people who need it.

    ~Isaiah 41:10~

Author's Response: Hi Amy, thanks for the kind words, wishes and prayers.  I agree with you about law enforcement still being attached to cases.  I have several close relatives in law enforcement and it can be hard on them.  They can't ignore the cruel world we live in.  As for Cindy Song, I hope that she is at peace and that she is eventually found so her family can have closure.  Happy Holidays.

Author's Response:  Sarah, I truly believe that we can all help people if we want to.  If you want to do this, then the opportunity will present itself.  God bless and Happy New Year's!

I completely agree with you. I've been dealing with certain things at my home too and I'm not even in college yet. Sometimes they scar me, but I don't think I've ever been through what you have. Just have faith and stay strong. At least you know what to do, and you don't have to hide your experiences from your friends and family. You didn't really hide it from anyone and I think that makes you a very brave person. Just keep doing what you're doing, and I'll keep praying for you, because I believe you are doing the right thing, for a lot of people.

Ryan, I think its amazing that you were willing to get out there and at least try! Most people, like you said just talk about situations but never try to change them. I really admire your tenacity and strength. Your ambition is inspiring!

Emotions are very hard to control (at least for me that is). I can tell from your words that you truly are emotionally involved be it wrong or right it proves a purpose in you. You can help and get emotionally involved if it were me missing I would want the ones looking for me to care (to feel empathy)to want me found

Ryan's Response: I did.  It was very sad and emotional.

I saw you're show for the first time and I really enjoyed it. I have seen a lot of paranormal shows but none of them get as involved with the people and there families as y'all do. I think what y'all do is awesome, and considering the fact that y'all go to school and lead very busy lives.I think its really cool that you find the time to do the things you love and you get to help people in the process. It cant get any better that. I really think you guys have an awesome job, everyone should be so lucky to do something they love. I wish you're team well and I really love the show ..............

Has Cindy been found? Would like more information, since the original post was a while back. When I read the post, had very specific persistent images come to mind. Not so unusual- we all use our own experiences to bring information/stories into our reality, to give it substance.

Hi Ryan. I am curious about what paranormal experience you had as a child that is referred to in the opening of the show. I had some of my own (still do) and would love to know what yours were.

    Dearest Ryan,
Please believe me when I say that this case will be solved in God's time, not time as we know it. When it is meant to be solved it will be; then again it may be one of those that is never solved in the here and now, but will be solved and the killer brought to justice (and I use that word loosely is this regard) in the afterlife. I will include her in my prayers.
Once again God bless and much love to you and your team...
